The facts
-
According to the 2011 census, there are over 42,000 carers in East Lancashire
-
It is estimated that there are around 6.5 million carers in the UK, around 1 in every 8 people
-
Three out of every five people in the UK will become a carer at some point in the lifetime
-
It is estimated that carers save the UK economy £132 billion every year.
We have just launched our 2025 campaign, aiming to tackle the ‘hidden carer crisis’ – this crisis has arisen because the latest statistics show that 73% of those who provide, or have provided, unpaid care said they do not self-identify as a carer, or it may take up to 5 years and reaching crisis point to do so. Many of those hidden carers who do not self-identify are missing out on caring services, help, support and advice they may desperately need.
